Maren Less is a Philadelphia-based artist. In addition to her more traditional drawings and paintings, Less creates drawing- and painting-based installations that remove these mediums from two-dimensionality and push them into all-encompassing experiences that invite the viewer to become a passerby in moments that materialize before them. Her work provokes imagination and joy through its feeble attempts at storytelling, rather humorous cracks at materiality, and neurotic fixation on detail.
Less has taught at the Philly Art Center and has been an adjunct professor at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design and the Tyler School of Art and Architecture. She has also been a guest lecturer at Moore College of Art. She has shown her work at Temple Contemporary and Aramark’s headquarters in Philadelphia, The Freehold Art Gallery in New Jersey, and Temple Rome Gallery in Rome, Italy.
Less holds a BA from Kenyon College, an MFA in painting from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in fine art from Maryland Institute College of Art.
