CREATE Connections Internship with the Nurture Nature Center

CREATE Connections is a NOAA grant-funded project run by the Nurture Nature Center (Easton, PA) that is focused on educating about the Climate Action Plans (CAPs) in Easton and Bethlehem, PA. The project uses a whole community approach to build collective environmental literacy and address current and future environmental hazards related to climate change.

The project’s goals are to develop accessible educational materials about climate, and community-specific strategies related to climate action that will enable community-based organizational partners (including libraries, students, and artists) to become effective disseminators of climate action information; and to create pathways and support for communities to implement their CAPs. We are looking to engage a cohort of 6 college interns from local colleges and universities to help develop and deliver education and outreach activities that will be shared through public libraries and other locations. This internship will run from August 2024 through July 2025 and interns will be provided a stipend for completing the program.

Interested applicants should complete the form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdbRGLCulElc-nGg9C2SbTAmH1QpXOw.... Applications are due April 1st, 2024.

Interns will work 5 hours per week during the fall (2024) and spring (2025) semesters (32 weeks) and 25 hours per week for 10 weeks over the summer 2025. Total stipend is $5,400. An additional $150 stipend will be provided to support travel related to project activities. Exact dates are subject to change but estimated as August 26th- Dec. 13th for 16 weeks fall 2024; Jan. 13th-May 2nd for 16 weeks spring 2025; May 19th-Aug 1st for 10 weeks summer 2025 including 1 week off for July 4th holiday. Work is expected to be hybrid with a combination of remote and in-person activities.

Interns will have a kickoff meeting in August 2024 and will meet monthly with NNC for project related activities, climate related educational webinars/presentations, and skill building, including a focus on developing the knowledge and competencies that are valuable for climate, resilience, and sustainability related careers.

Interns will work in both their community and on their college campus. They will explore key strategies from their community’s respective plan and work with NNC, advisors, and the public libraries to develop educational programs to be implemented at the libraries over the summer of 2025.

Interns will have the opportunity to help with NNC's Annual Youth Climate Summit for middle and high school students in Spring 2025.

Interns will develop an educational campaign that targets underserved neighborhoods through storefront posters while engaging small business owners as information disseminators.

Interns will help create videos highlighting sustainability and the CAPs that will be shared on social media.

Interns will help NNC develop “climate-friendly kits” that will be assembled and disseminated free to the community. These kits will contain educational material, along with free samples of sustainability related items.

Interns will work with NNC and artists to inform the creation of collaborative art installations that will bring the CAP data to life and highlight key strategies in engaging, accessible ways.
