Marilyn Jones

Marilyn Jones is the founder of and adviser for Fusion, Lehigh’s student design agency, which she created in order to give students the opportunity to interact with clients and learn the process of design through real-world projects.

Prof. Jones’s research focus is the pedagogical impact of experiential learning in design. She has presented papers and has served on panels addressing the future of design education at various conferences, including ones sponsored by the College Book Arts Association, the University College Designers Association, Foundations in Art: Theory and Education, and the American Institute of Graphic Arts.

Prior to coming to Lehigh, Prof. Jones worked professionally as a designer and art director at a variety of design firms and ad agencies for over thirty years. Eventually she opened her own design firm where she served as creative director. There, she developed strategic design solutions for clients including Fortune 500 companies in the telecommunication, pharmaceutical, and publishing industries, as well as non-profit organizations. She has received numerous awards in the areas of corporate identity, branding, publishing, and book design. She continues to serve a select group of clients including Lehigh University Press, for which she has designed over ninety books published and distributed by Rowman & Littlefield.

Prof. Jones earned her MFA from Marywood University and her BFA from Syracuse University in visual communications. In addition, she holds a BS in art education from Kutztown University.
